Who we are
The Rutland Invitation Quiz League (RIQL) is a voluntary, not-for-profit sports organisation. We operate this website at riql.org.uk.
For data protection purposes, RIQL is the data controller. You can contact us at contact @ riql.org.uk.
What data we collect and why
We collect only what is necessary to run the league. The table below summarises what we hold, why, and how long we keep it.
| Data | Why we hold it | Legal basis | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email address Optional; collected only if a player opts in |
To provide access to submit results and access past questions | Consent — you choose to provide it via the notification preference on your dashboard | You can delete your account at any time |
| Session cookie A temporary identifier stored in your browser |
To keep you logged in while you browse the site | Legitimate interests — essential for login functionality | Deleted when you log out |
What we do not collect
- We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any other third-party tracking or advertising service.
- We do not use persistent tracking cookies or fingerprinting.
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
Where your data is stored
Account data is stored in a private database on a server located in the United Kingdom. It is not transferred outside the UK.
Your rights under UK GDPR
As a UK resident you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate information.
- Erasure — player accounts can be self-deleted at any time from the player dashboard. This removes your name and email address immediately. Historical league results are retained as part of the public record but contain no personal information. You can also request deletion by emailing us.
- Withdraw consent — email notification preferences can be changed at any time from the player dashboard without deleting your account.
- Lodge a complaint — with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe we have not handled your data correctly.
To exercise any of these rights (other than those handled self-service above), please email us at contact @ riql.org.uk. We will respond within one calendar month.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
